The COVID-19 crisis is causing a growing demand for food by social entities that help the most disadvantaged. Arenas de Barcelona will distribute non-perishable food such as oil, preserves, legumes and hygienic material to the Barcelona Food Bank.
Arenas shopping center, with the collaboration of its tenants, Mercadona and Veritas, will make a donation of 6 tons of food to the city’s Food Bank, a non-profit entity, which since last March has already distributed two million kilos of food.
Due to this social emergency, food has become a primary need among groups of people who are in a vulnerable situation. The Barcelona Food Bank is an independent foundation that mainly obtains food that distributes to social entities and uses the available resources to regulate food deliveries throughout the year. These are achieved in three ways: the recovery of surpluses to avoid waste, donations, and the program subsidized by the EU. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 emergency, the Food Bank has been helping the neediest families.
